Married first to: Cora Thompson, [b. MI] 14 Dec 1886, Knox County, OH [Cora divorced William sometime prior to 24 Dec 1904 when she married Lewis A. Stevens.]

Married second to: Amanda E. [Wilcox] Greenwell (b. 23 March 1864, OH; [father b. NY, mother b. OH] and d. 18 Oct 1827, Mansfield, OH at age 63 y, 6 m, 25 d) 11 Oct 1897Knox County, OH (Amanda was first married to a Mr. Greenwell abt 1883. She is divorced from William Van Wicklen by 1910 and she apparently retained custody of the children.) [On William's death certificate he claims he was widowed, but on Amanda's death certificate she claims she was divorced from Mr. Van Wicklen...so there is a discrepancy here.]

Background information: William^7 A. Van Wicklen (Nicholas^6, John^5, Gerrit^4, Evert^3, Gerrit^2, Jentie^1 Jeppes), b. 7 October, 1859, NY  He married first to Cora Thompson [b. MI] before 1886. He married second to Amanda E. Wilcox (b. March 1864, OH; father b. NY, mother b. OH) abt 1898 (Amanda was first married to a Mr. Greenwell abt 1883. She is divorced from William by 1910 and she apparently retained custody of the children as can be seen in the 1910 US Census information below.)

[word of explanation about Cora Thompson and Edith Stevens. William A. Van Wicklen married Cora Thompson and they had daughter, Edith Van Wicklen. However, William and Cora divorced and Cora remarried to a Mr. Stevens and Cora retained custody of Edith. Edith had her surname legally changed to Stevens on 25 Dec 1904 and she therefore died Edith M. Stevens the following summer on 19 June 1905.]

She was single at time of death. (by Amanda's first marriage to Mr. Greenwell) Cora B. Greenwell, b. June 1884, IL. She married a Mr. Fergenson and had a daughter, Thelma by that marriage. At time of 1920 census, both Cora and Thelma are living with Amanda; Ethel M. Greenwell, b. March 1891, KS; (by Amanda's marriage to William Van Wicklen) Bertha^8 Van Wicklen, b.12 July 1898, Mt Vernon, OH and d. 5 Nov 1918, Mansfield, Richland, OH at the age of 20.. She married Fred Rizzo (b. 25 Jul 1895 and d. Nov 1974, OH) on Saturday, 6 Feb 1915. They appear to have had at least one daughter, Marie, who married George Maier on 7 August 1937; Irene^8 Van Wicklen, b. abt 1900, OH

6 Feb 1915 Miss Bertha Van Wicklen and Fred Rizzo were married according to Mansfield News Journal (Mansfield, OH) of 6 Feb 1935 in an article titled "Twenty years ago today."

1946 Certificate of Death for William Augustus Van Wicklin, b. 7 Oct 1859  in Jamaica, L.I., NY and d. 26 Aug 1946 at age 86 years, 9 months, and 19 days in Mt Vernon, Knox, OH. He was a retired railway expressman and son of Nicholas and Harriett [Weeks] Van Wicklen. His sister, Alica A. [Van Wicklen] Parrish was the informant on the death certificate.
